WAVEFORM GENERATION LAB

The final lab in my System Dynamics class involved approximating a waveform with a Fourier series. After working through calculations and obtaining the coefficients, an Arduino Uno passed a PWM signal through a 1-bit DAC for viewing on an oscilloscope.

The M&M Waveform

This is the piecewise definition of the M&M waveform.

The First 21 Fourier Coefficients

These coefficients inform how the fourier series of a function converges to said function. In actuality, we can't use all infinitely many terms, so in this case only 21 were used.

Theoretical Waveform & Fourier Series Approximation

The graph in red is the M&M waveform, and the graph in blue is the fourier series approximation to the M&M waveform.

Experimental Results

This image was viewed on an oscilloscope, and was generated by having an Arduino Uno send the appropriate PWM signal through a 1-bit DAC.
