INDIVIDUAL DESIGN PROJECT
As a part of my Computer Aided Design and Fabrication class, we were tasked with taking an object we were interested in and producing a model and drawings of it in SOLIDWORKS. The object I chose is one of the internal mechanisms in a ski binding: the DIN Spring.
This spring is in control of how “tightly” the binding locks the boot in place on the ski, and is responsible for the release of either the toe or heel of the boot under a particular amount of torque or force applied to the skiers’ legs. When set properly, this assembly can prevent serious injury to skiers’ knees and legs by releasing the ski from the boot and freeing the skiers’ legs to move normally in the event of a crash or fall on the part of the skier.
